Call me Katie!
I’m Kathryn Renée Thomas, but you can call me Katie.
I’m best known for my work on the TV Land comedy, Teachers, which I co-created, executive produced, wrote, and starred in with my longtime comedy group, The Katydids. Teachers received critical acclaim from Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. The show ran for 3 seasons with a total of 50 episodes
My most recent project is The Cleave, a satirical momfluencer social media account/blog. It’s like The Onion or Reductress, but for moms. The Cleave originated during the COVID-19 pandemic when my longtime comedy partner and I unexpectedly became the default full-time caretakers of our young children. We channeled the anxiety triggered by the frustrating state of American motherhood into our edgy, oftentimes dark, feminist brand of comedy. The Cleave was chosen to be a part of the 2022 Yes, And… Laughter Lab showcase at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles. We are currently focusing on creating comedic social media content for the non-profit, MomsRising.
I’m an alum of The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where I received a B.A. in English Language & Literature and a B.F.A. in Theatre Performance. I improvised and did sketch comedy for many years, primarily in Chicago and Detroit. I have experience directing and teaching improv to adults, teens, and kids, and facilitating workshops in corporate settings.
I’m a member with active standing of SAG-AFTRA and have emeritus status with the WGAW. Check out my resume for more details.
After my unexpectedly long baby/COVID-induced hiatus from the entertainment industry, I’m looking to get back to work! I am represented by Stewart Talent (Chicago) by The I Group (Detroit).
